Today’s photographic shenanigans where so expansive, I’ve had to split them into two posts. During the day, I explored Death Valley as mush as possible in a single day (As the guide book tells you, it’s about “twice the size of the state of Delaware!”). Afterwards, I scoped out Las Vegas, which will be covered in the next post.

On the road into the park
I was going to hit up the East side of Yosemite today, but I decided to see what this Mono Lake was about. As soon as a I saw a picture, I decided heading down there was mandatory.
The South Tufa area of Mono Lake
Tufa is apparently an underwater calcium deposit phenomenon. The water level of Mono lake was lowed significantly when much of it’s depository streams were diverted for use by the city of Los Angeles, exposing several tufa patches. The tree hugger in me cringes, but the shutter bug heartens.
It’s amazing what 24 hours and a few hundred miles can do to improve the weather. I literally couldn’t have asked for better weather today. It was brite and sunny out the entire day, but were still a few clouds wandering around to keep the photos looking better. Not only that, but the temperature was perfect for hiking; brisk, but not cold. I was more than a little shutter happy today, so I have a veritable hoard of photos to post:
So I guess pogo sticks are ok? And hover boards of course. But definately not Light Cycles.
